RTE SWIFT – Portable border control terminal

SWIFT is a portable inspection terminal designed for use by Immigration Authorities, Border Control Police, cruise lines and international airlines.

With its compact and rugged design SWIFT can be easily transported to any remote location where embarkation, disembarkation, transfer passenger or border control inspection is required. The SWIFT terminal combines a notebook computer and modem with a document reader. These are built into an executive style briefcase together with long life batteries and charger to give a fully portable border control terminal.

SWIFT collects data from travel documents and transmits it on-line via a radio data link, mobile (cell) phone, modem or local area network to a host system. The data can be checked against watch lists and used to record passenger movements. Alternatively, SWIFT can work independently of the host system, storing and validating data locally for transfer to the host at a later stage.

Depending on the data capture requirements, SWIFT is supplied either with the RTE6700 OCR/MSR reader, the RTE6701 OCR reader or the RTE6701/PORTABLE. The RTE6701 readers can capture optical data from passports, visas, travel cards, airline tickets and ATB coupons whilst the RTE6700 can additionally capture magnetic data from credit cards, frequent flyer cards and 4 track ATB coupons.

Having internal batteries the RTE6701/PORTABLE can be used away from the SWIFT terminal, collecting data in reduced access areas such as trains or boats. The data can then be uploaded to the laptop.

SWIFT is ideally suited to capture Advance Passenger Information Systems (APIS) data, either at temporary checkpoints or simply as a stand-alone passenger processing terminal located, for instance, at the boarding gate or quayside.
