RTE8000 QA combined OCR and RF passport QA scanner

The RTE8000 full page QA scanner is used by passport issuance authorities who wish to perform quality assurance of chip enabled e-Passports. The desktop QA scanner features a full colour, 400 dpi passport page scanner with a fully integrated RF reader for ISO 14443 Type A and B contactless chips as specified by ICAO.

Upon insertion of an e-Passport for test the QA scanner automatically scans the data page using infra red light. It locates the Machine Readable Zone (MRZ), decodes the OCRB codelines and validates the embedded check digits. Position and print quality of the codelines are also checked against the standards defined in ICAO Document 9303. If required, a full colour, 400 dpi image of the data page can also be captured automatically.

The QA scanner then performs a series of integrity checks on the data stored in the RF chip. These include a basic check to ensure a chip is present and programmed, reading of EF.COM, EF.SOD, DG1, DG2 plus other data groups if present plus validation of digital signatures and hash codes. Basic Access Control (BAC) is fully supported.

The total time from insertion of the e-Passport to completion of the QA analysis is approximately 2 seconds without Basic Access Control.
