| High tech scanners for Lithuania30 May 2007Lithuanian border guards will soon be able to access the latest passport scanning technology supplied by British company Rochford Thompson. In 2004, Lithuania became part of both the EU and the Schengen Agreement – under which border controls between EU countries are relaxed, but maintained at a high level between EU and non-EU countries. Lithuanian integrator AIDETA – a subsidiary company of ORDI - was commissioned to provide enhanced security technology for Lithuanian border guards as part of the country’s process of integration with the 15 other Schengen members. UK-based Rochford Thompson will provide document scanners to be used at border control points and also by police, immigration and Ministry of Foreign Affairs officials. Rochford Thompson document scanning technology is already in use by Governments, global corporations, financial institutions and airlines worldwide and customers include the US Department of Homeland Security. Scanners are able to read all travel documents that conform to international standards specified by ICAO*. The RTE8000 is also ideal for busy airport terminals. The €1.8m contract, due to be completed this year, includes 20 RTE6701 and 85 RTE8000 scanners, plus PCs, laser printers and networking provided by AIDETA.
